Where's Grady?

Those word come out of my mouth at least 8 times a day. He has usually found a way into the girls room or in the pantry to eat a little dog food. This time he was playing quietly under the kids table. He is a silly guy. Love that.
Oh, I also love an uneventful spring break. We are enjoying it quietly(Ok so its really not at all quiet) at home. I am just not ready to take the troops on a vacation. Overnight is as much of a challenge as I can handle right now. Maybe we'll do lunch or even a movie(sounding crazy yet?) tomorrow when I don't work. In the meantime, I have a couple of art projects planned for Grady's naptime. I am again feeling the struggle between having fun with the kids and housekeeping. I have such a hard time finding a balance with this one. I dont see it getting any easier until all the kids can pitch in, or at least pick up after themselves.
This past weekend was fun. Saturday I had to work and Jason brought Summer to a birthday party. Only there was no birthday party. We were a day early. And the mom answered the door in her Pjs. Jason was not impressed with me. I have never heard of a kids party being on a Sunday. I just assumed it was Saturday! I got out at 5pm and met them at my in-laws for a belated birthday fishfry for Jason. Yum. The kids spent the entire time outside exploring. Bob & Joan's is great for that. We had a bonfire( yeah for April bonfires!) and the kids went to sleep and the adults sat around talking, dreaming and laughing A LOT. Since I was DD, I really got to enjoy some silliness just as the observer! Such a great way to kick off the season. Now too bad its like 35 degrees out again...

I totally love the b-day party surprise! That is hilarious and definately something that I am capable of doing too! I think you need to make better use of your planner:) Reminder: The kids are having a sleepover at my house on Friday night, don't show up Thursday night...I wont answer the door!

That is so funny about the birthday party!!! I'm sure it wasn't for Jason at the time though!! I can just hear what that lady was thinking, "Who the heck is that guy at my door, I don't even have a bra on yet!!" Did you start laughing when he told you? Sounds like you guys had a fun weekend though. Enjoy the rest of spring break!

Jen,

I have to say your life is never boring. I don't think any of our lives are boring. Not when you have as many kids as we do. The birthday party was too funny. I too have made that mistake. I have screwed it up in more ways than you can imagine. Drop off day, drop off time, pick up time, name of child. My kids have learned to cope with my inability to remember everything.

I have to comment on the statement that you made about balancing playing with the kids and cleaning the house. I have also struggled with this a great deal. When you have a larger family, which we both do, chores can be endless. Especially when the little ones can't help so much. A wise woman once asked me this... Do you want your children to remember you as a mother who constantly cleaned all the time and never had time to play? or as a mother who invested in her childrens hearts and did special things with them such as playing and crafts and such.

Take Care

I agree 100% with the comment above. I too strungle with the clean house/ kid time thing. I have to admit, I think the house wins more than the kids, but I am trying to balance it more. If you have any ideas on this, please post. :)!
Was Jason mad about the party? I don't think Jimmy would let me live that one down and I know he would NEVER take the kids to a party again. Actually, he probably would like to make that "mistake", just to get out of party taking. He does this kind of thing...the laundry...screws it up to not have to do it again.
I am glad that all in all you had a good weekend. I love that you had a bon fire. THEY ARE THE BEST!!! It makes me want to have one. I love this time of the year, well spring, not this crap winter stuff that is coming back. Everything is fresh and new.
Oh yeah, the pictures of Grady, again too cute. I just want to pick that boy up and squeeze. He is as much of a lover as he looks????
